The Committee was established on 22 June 2011 with a remit to examine legislation and hold the Welsh Government to account by scrutinising expenditure, administration and policy matters encompassing: the physical, mental and public health of the people of Wales, including the social care system.

News

 

The Committee published its report on the work of Healthcare Inspectorate Wales on 21 March 2014. The Welsh Government response is due in within 6 working weeks from the of the report’s publication date.

 

The Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Bill was agreed by the Assembly in accordance with Standing Order 12.36 on 18 March 2014. The Bill is currently at Post-stage 4.

 

The Committee launched calls for written evidence on the following inquiries on 14 March 2014:

 

The Health and Social Care Committee is hosting informal focus group activity for its inquiry into the availability of bariatric services in Wales on Wednesday 12 March 2014. The focus groups will include patients, clinicians and practitioners with experience in the field of bariatric services. The event will take place in Cwmbrân, Gwent; individuals will attend by invitation only.

 

The Committee received the Welsh Government’s response to its letter on the follow-up inquiry on stroke risk reduction on 20 February 2014.

 

The Health and Social Care Committee visited Swansea on 13 February as part of its inquiry into the availability of bariatric services. The Committee held a formal evidence session in the Margam Building, Swansea University during the morning, and visited the Welsh Institute of Metabolic and Obesity Surgery (WIMOS), Morriston Hospital during the afternoon.

 

The Committee launched calls for written evidence on the following inquiries on 10 February 2014:

 

The Committee received the Welsh Government’s response to its letter on unscheduled care: winter preparedness 2013/14 on 5 February 2014.

                       

The Committee has agreed its forward work programme for January to April 2014.
